One of those days

Was walking into town this morning, and while passing pretty much the only person I saw on the way suddenly became aware I was about to walk into a branch sticking out of the hedge. Swerved my head violently sideways and looked crossly at the branch in a rather over-exaggerated fashion, so that the woman coming the other way wouldn't think I was some kind of twitching lunatic. And promptly fell off the kerb because I wasn't looking ahead. Ho hum...

Three day weekend! Yay!

To paraphrase Arkwright, it's been a funny old week. Last Friday we had the leaving do of someone who was actually leaving this Friday, which necessitated another one - only thing is, he's coming back as a consultant, so it was a case of goodbye, good luck, and see you on Tuesday.

Yesterday, set up the Bluecat Forum for James, although also that evening managed to slice through both finger and nail when chopping onions (in a hurry, wanting to get back and see if any bugger had joined). So it's maimed me already, and today it is very difficult to typw. (see what I mean? and that wasn't deliberate, but I'm leaving it in to prove me point).

Ooh, gotta go, meeting my mother to eat an enormous amount of breakfast in town.

Out of her head on nip

OK, so I promise it won't become a catblog. But I thought I'd share the latest picture, of Smudge having discovered the cat nip in the kitchen. Wave b'bye to your houseplants now...

Say hello to the girls

As some of you may know, our cat sadly passed away a few weeks ago.

After days of weirdly empty rooms, yesterday we picked up two new residents - Smudge (left) and Molly.

They've already made themselves well at home - Smudge giving every little nook a good sniff and investigation, Molly opting for the lounging on the sofa and affecting disinterest. She should really have a silk turban and cigarette holder, one feels...

But was it a Norwegian Blue?

Local paper board outside the station this morning declared "Pet parrot dies after 39 years - picture". Picture? Of what, the dead parrot?

I'm baaaack!

Miss me?

I shall probably post shortly, but currently there's wine to be drunk and a Doctor Who book to be read.

In the meantime, here's where we went: http://www.closetaggart.co.uk

Happy Blue Cat Birthday

And a happy birthday to James today! Don't do anything I wouldn't do. Which I'm sure you feel gives you a fairly wide field.

Worth the effort, I feel

Having perhaps belatedly joined the iTunes generation, downloaded all the appropriate bits and sitting with access to thousands of potential music gems - the only thing I could think of I wanted? Echo Beach, by Martha and the Muffins.

Doctor Who - The Rambler Verdict

Well, after deliberating, cogitating, and a certain amount of gleeful grinning- in the words of the Fast Show - Brilliant! I like the Doctor (temperemental actors not withstanding), I like Rose and I like the writing. Long may it continue. I can't believe it's been 15 years. That's over half my life.

My one criticism would be that so far it all seems a bit rushed - doing a whole story in 45 minutes seems to lose a lot of the tension. I need cliffhangers! I'm not after a return to Ambassadors of Death territory (and until you've sat through a really bad copy of all 68-odd episodes at about 3am you don't know the meaning of the word mind-numbing) - but I really do think the stories would work better as at least two-parters.

And the question I have now that ole' bat-ears has said he won't do a second series is will he deign to do a regeneration scene, or will he 'throw a Colin'? And something else I'd like to see him do would be maybe one of Big Finish's audio adventures doing a story with Paul McGan's regeneration into him. But I bet he won't.

Still, overall, a big thumbs up. Even it it is weird to think that to the current generation watching for the first time, Christopher Eccleston will be the Doctor.

Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit

On sale in Sainsburys - trays of "Half Wild Rabbit". Now, was this a bunny that was more than a bit miffed, or one that they tamed just enough so it would come close enough to be bopped over the head? I think we should be told.

Political Musings

The first laugh gleaned form the upcoming election yesterday - the opening line in the Lib Dem 'vote for me' bumf is "You might be reading todays post sitting in your favourite armchair." As I was actually sitting on the loo when I opened it, I felt this rather summed up the whole process. And if I don't vote for them, it will probably be due to that missing apostrophe in their opening line.

Still, plus point number one to them - the first party to send us one joint letter, rather than the tree munching seperates of the 'other two' - in fact I think Labour have sent multiple mailings already.

Plus point number two - they spend the majority of their letter saying what they plan to do, rather than just slagging off the other parties (unlike the others).

In a rare moment of actual political interest I had a look at their
website - and rather gleefully discovered that they're trying have the the Tories and Labour fined for cold-calling people that are registered with the Telephone Preference Service. As we've had to put up with several calls already (ok, so we're not registered, but cold calls of any description piss me off and the Lib Dems aren't doing it at all) this made me rather happy. It also gave me the link to be able to register my own number which made me very happy.

I should maybe say here that I normally vote
Green, but I have no idea if we'll have a candidate in the election, and having looked through their website I'm still none the wiser.

Sheep Dash!

It's kind of addictive...

although I confess I haven't managed to get above 'bobbing bobcat' yet.
